Overview
Three years after The Beatles Talk Downunder, Raven returned to the group’s spoken-word history with a broader geographical brief. Released in mono in November 1984, The Beatles Talk Downunder (And All Over) Vol 2 extended beyond the first album’s account of the 1964 Australasian tour to include interviews and press conferences recorded in Australia, Britain, Europe and the United States.

The project continued Raven’s archival approach. Founded in Sydney in 1979 by music historian and journalist Glenn A. Baker, Kevin Mueller and Peter Shillito, the label specialised in recovering rare and overlooked recordings. It began with Australian beat and garage rock, expanded into archival LP compilations in 1980, and gained access to material through Australian and overseas licensing agreements and direct arrangements with artists. Its description, “prepared by collectors for collectors”, captured the intention behind releases such as these. Raven remained active until April 2017.

Glenn and Bruce Hamlin compiled the second volume, whose expanded title acknowledged its international scope. Issued in a gatefold sleeve and distributed by Larrikin Records Distribution, it placed Australian encounters within a wider collection of the Beatles’ public conversations. An elaborate Japanese edition followed on 5 December 1986 through Overseas/Teichiku as UPS-679-V. It included picture labels, an eight-page Japanese transcript, a postcard, a sticker and an individual collector’s number. Its gatefold drew on photographs from the 1964 tour, including numerous images of Jimmy Nicol, giving the Australian connection a prominent place in the overseas presentation.
