Overview
For the second release in the 'requests' trilogy, EMI (Australia) used the second side of the Long Tall Sally EP, which by then had arrived from Britain, and added two tracks from the With The Beatles LP.
The cover uses the same Robert Freeman photograph as the UK EP, but places it against a sandy-gradient background, with THE BEATLES printed in blue. For reasons unknown, the colour was changed to purple in 1968 (click sleeve image above to see example).
As Derek Taylor's original liner notes no longer suited the altered track listing, they were discarded in favour of four simple head shots of the group.
Although EMI (Australia) documentation records 20 August 1964 as the release date, contemporary media articles indicate that More Requests! was actually issued on 30 July. This is also consistent with its almost immediate appearance on Australian charts, including Sydney on 31 July and Brisbane and Adelaide on 1 August.
The EP remained in print until December 1978. In June 1979, EMI (Australia) recut this EP and the other Australian 70000-series Beatles EPs for reissue with revised artwork. For the recuts, EMI (Australia) went back to stereo tapes but mastered in mono, ostensibly to “maintain the feel of the original sound”. The more practical explanation was that EMI had temporarily misplaced PARLO 99, the original mono compilation tape containing the EP tracks. This reissue first appeared in September 1979.
