LABEL STYLES - ALBUMS
ORANGE
In service between April 1969 and March 1982, the ubiquitous (and very 'loud') orange 'EMI 1-Box' design is perhaps the label that is most identified with Australian Beatles LPs. Although similar to the layout of the UK 'EMI 1-box' labels, the prominent placement of "STEREO" at the top of the label, and of course the orange-hued base, contribute to an altogether unique label style for Australian Beatles albums.
Three key styles of orange EMI 1-Box label were used between 1969 and 1982, identified predominently by the placement of the word "STEREO". These styles can be categorised as:
1) Style 'A' - Top STEREO, where "STEREO" appears at the top of the label, above the boxed Parlophone logo
2) Style 'B' - Side STEREO, where "STEREO" appears to the right of the spindle-hole, above the PCSO catalogue number
3) Style 'C' - No STEREO, where "STEREO" is absent from the label altogether
Styles 'B' and 'C' were introduced in October 1978 and early 1979 respectively. Not all albums were released in all styles - see illustrated list, below.
Only one label pair per title is displayed on this page. Label variations for a given record can be found on its corresponding LP page (accessible via the main 'LPs' menu, above).
