LABEL STYLES - ALBUMS
BLACK 1-BOX
In April 1982, EMI (Australia) replaced both the orange Parlophone and Apple labels with a silver text on black version of the orange Parlophone label. The new colours had the effect of making the label look much more contemporary.
In July 1987, EMI (Australia) Limited and EMI (New Zealand) Limited combined to form the EMI Music Group Australasia. Vinyl and CD labels were updated to reflect the change, which occurred right in the middle of the Sgt Pepper's red-vinyl pressing run. The change coincided with EMI (New Zealand)'s decision to cease domestic production of vinyl records; all future vinyl issued in New Zealand by EMI was pressed at the Homebush plant. This label style remained in use until the cessation of vinyl production in November 1990.
In November 1988, the labels for Rubber Soul and Past Masters were re-typeset using Mergenthaler Linotype (or equivalent) phototypesetting, providing a unique appearance amongst Beatles LPs.
Only one label pair per title is displayed on this page. Label variations for a given record can be found on its corresponding LP page (accessible via the main 'LPs' menu, above).
