SILVER/BLACK - STYLE 'B' - NO ROYALTY STAMPS
Renewed interest in the original album created by the release of the 1978 film of the same name (directed by Michael Schultz and featuring Peter Frampton and The Bee Gees) led Capitol US to release this single in mid-August 1978. EMI (Australia) followed suit, releasing the same coupling two weeks later (but sans picture sleeve).
At the stage of mastering, EMI (Australia) was only up to number 11780 in its singles numbering system. Phil Israel, Parlophone's label manager, was an avid Beatles fan and it was his decision to allocate the number 12000, as he thought it was a nice round number and would be a fitting end to the extant numbering system, which would re-commence at number 100 some 13 months later in September 1979.
The film was the catalyst behind EMI UK re-pressing the original album as a picture disc, which EMI (Australia) subsequently added to its catalogue as an import.
The single did not chart locally.
