First released in Australia in November 1976, The Beatles Tapes would be subject to a number of reissues over the ensuing years, culminating with a CD release of two volumes in April 1991.

Three variations in the packaging have been identified:

• Contains an 8-page stapled booklet affixed to the inner sleeve. Rear cover states "Manufactured and Distributed in Australia under licence". (A1)
• Contains an 8-page stapled booklet affixed to the inner sleeve. Rear cover states "Distributed in Australia by Phonogram Pty. Limited".  (A2)
• Contains two separate 4-page photo inserts – one in each LP pocket. Although the pictures are the same as A1 and A2, the page order has been altered. Rear cover states in part "...Made in Australia by PolyGram Records Pty. Limited,...". Catalogue number now printed on the top right of the inner-right gatefold as well as on each insert. (A3)

Each variation contains records with corresponding labels.

None of the variations include the poster that graced the UK release.
