GENERAL ALBUM INFORMATION
Following EMI's acquisition of United Artists Records and its subsidiaries Liberty Records and Imperial Records in February 1979, the soundtrack version of A Hard Day's Night was reissued in the US on the Capitol label in August 1980. In accordance with established practice, Capitol made the tapes available to worldwide EMI subsidiaries, an option picked-up by EMI (Australia), who subsequently released the album a year later on 27 July 1981. The album comprised a mixture of vocal and instrumental tracks from the 1964 movie.

Like the US release, which for whatever reason used the original United Artists tapes rather than new stereo tapes, the instrumental tracks are presented in stereo but The Beatles' tracks are 'electronically rechannelled stereo' ('ping-pong' aural effect) derived from the mono mixes.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the album appears to have been deleted within the year, with no copies confirmed on the black Parlophone label that was introduced in April 1982. Unsold copies were palmed off to the World Record Club, who made it available in 1982 under the number (R) 91929 - see image at right.

Mastered at Studios 301 by Otto Ruiter utilising the Maxicut Process. The production master tape carried the file number PARLO 574 (both sides).
