Revolver Production Master Tape

At right is a scan of PARLO 159, the cassette production master tape of Revolver.

This tape was dubbed from EMI UK's stereo master for EMI (Australia) in September 1970 specifically for cassette mastering. It was filed locally as PARLO 159 (you can see some of this still written on the box).

It's a single 1/4" 15ips tape on 10.5" reel.

The first two cassette production dates are not documented on the box (unless they are written under the 1980-era labels), only the third, from December 1975. Otto Ruiter then used the tape for a recut of side 2 of the LP in October 1982. This was the first Australian cut of the side, with all prior copies pressed from the original 1966 UK-supplied mothers (with stampers made locally).

By itself the tape box doesn't give up too many secrets, however, it paints a different picture when read in conjunction with the original Acceptance Sheet, which goes in greater detail right down to engineer notes.

Of interest though is the UK engineer's notation against the last track 'Tomorrow Never Knows': "NB THIS TITLES [sic] IS APPROX 3DBS UP ON OTHER TITLES". A similar notation is present on the UK master tape box.
