At right is the file sheet of the original A Hard Day's Night mono release Acceptance Sheet.
Every album, EP and single released by EMI had one of these (foolscap size) Form 22 Acceptance Sheets (obviously the template changed over time). Each had about 4 pages that were separated and provided to the different Divisions (ie copyright, cutting, printer, engineer...) throughout the manufacturing process. By this time EMI realised that they had a big selling group on their hands, hence the initial label order of 20,000, which was unheard of for Australian LPs back in 1964!
Also notice the Matrix Type: "Tape - already delivered to Studio". Unlike Please Please Me, which was pressed from Mothers imported from EMI UK, EMI (Australia) would use copy tapes for A Hard Day's Night, Beatles For Sale and Help!. The exact reason for this departure from standard practice is unclear, however, it is believed that by this time, as The Beatles were way more than just a household name, the decision was made to obtain tape copies instead of Mothers simply to mitigate waiting for replacement metal parts if they were subsequently required.
For whatever reason though, this approach didn't last long, with EMI (Australia) reverting back to importing Mothers for Rubber Soul and subsequent albums.
