With The Beatles Production Master Tape
At right is a scan of PARLO 225, the side 1 production master tape of With The Beatles.
Like most other Beatles tapes sent here in the early seventies, the tapes for With The Beatles were provided predominantly for the purposes of cassette production, given the LPs were already catered for through either UK-supplied mothers or tapes (for those three albums in the middle). Here, EMI UK provided the tapes in their cassette sequence (side 1 order shown):
1. All My Loving
2. Little Child
3. Devil In Her Heart
4. Not A Second Time
5. Please Mister Postman
6. Hold Me Tight
7. You Really Got A Hold On Me
For our cassette production we reverted the tapes back to LP sequence, however, that apparently was done each time at the production stage.
In 1980, EMI (Australia) decided to recut the LP. Studios 301 searched the library and found these tapes. Otto Ruiter then set about re-sequencing the side 1 tape (again) to the correct LP running order, although this time it would stay that way! A new sticker was applied to the box over the original EMI UK details. Don Bartley would do something similar with the side 2 tape.
It appears Otto actually made three cuts that day, as the released version carries the matrix number TPCS 3045A-3.
A nice, clean tape box with almost no writing. The next cut would not be until November 1988, when EMI used the UK digitally remastered CDs as the source.
